Russia launched a deadly overnight missile and drone assault on Kyiv, killing at least six people — including a six-year-old boy — and injuring dozens more, according to local officials on Thursday.
Tymur Tkachenko, the city’s military administrator, said the attack struck 27 sites across four districts of the Ukrainian capital, leaving widespread destruction.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy shared footage of buildings in flames, revealing that people were still trapped beneath the debris of a residential block.
“It’s a horrible morning in Kyiv. The brutal Russian strikes destroyed entire residential buildings and damaged schools and hospitals,” Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha posted on X with an image of a devastated block of apartments.
Russia, while denying it targets civilians, has ramped up aerial assaults in recent months on Ukrainian towns and cities far from the front lines of its ongoing invasion, now entering its fourth year.
In a sign of growing impatience, U.S. President Donald Trump this week shortened the deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a peace deal.
“President Trump has been very generous and very patient with Putin, trying to find a solution,” Sybiha wrote. “Putin does it on purpose.”
