At least 19 people were injured after a Russian strike hit residential buildings in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Friday, local authorities have said.
The attack came just a day after Moscow accused Ukraine of launching a strike on a hotel and café in Russian-occupied southern Ukraine that reportedly killed 27 people, warning Kyiv there would be “consequences”.
Ukrainian officials have insisted that the strike targeted a military gathering and that civilians were not present.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov said the victims of Friday’s attack suffered blast injuries, cuts from shattered glass and abrasions.
He confirmed that a six-month-old baby was among those wounded.

Images from the scene showed extensive damage to multi-storey apartment blocks, with piles of smoking debris scattered across the area as firefighters worked to extinguish flames.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as “heinous,” saying preliminary information suggested that two missiles had struck an ordinary residential neighbourhood.
“This is how the Russians treat life and people,” Zelenskyy said in a post on social media. “They continue to kill, despite all efforts by the world—and especially by the United States—through diplomatic channels.”
