Mohamed Salah has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Season for a second time, following a standout year that saw him spearhead Liverpool’s charge to a historic 20th league title.
The Egyptian forward has racked up an impressive 28 goals in the league – more than any other player – and contributed 18 assists ahead of Liverpool’s final match of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday. With those numbers, he sits just two assists shy of matching the single-season record shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The prestigious award is determined through a combination of public votes and selections by a panel of football experts. Salah first received the honour in the 2017-18 season and now becomes the first non-Manchester City player to win since Virgil van Dijk’s triumph in 2018-19.
Salah’s victory breaks City’s four-year stranglehold on the award. Notably, van Dijk, who renewed his contract with Liverpool earlier in the season, was among the nominees Salah surpassed in the voting.
Other players shortlisted included Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, Declan Rice of Arsenal, Nottingham Forest duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
This latest accolade follows Salah’s recent recognition by the Football Writers’ Association, where he was named Player of the Year with nearly 90 percent of the vote — the largest margin of victory recorded this century.
