Despite the fact that the game was being played at Anfield, a United victory felt like a foregone conclusion going into the game, but it was clear from the first kick that Liverpool were up for the challenge.

Early on, United was holding on by a thread thanks to Lisandro Martinez’s stellar defence, but once Gakpo started the scoring just before halftime, Liverpool couldn’t be stopped in a thrilling second half.

Jürgen Klopp’s team scored six goals in the second half after Gakpo broke the deadlock two minutes before halftime. Soon after the restart, Nunez and Gakpo made it 3-0, with Salah scoring his first goal in the 66th minute and Nunez adding his second, before Salah surpassed Rob Fowler as the club’s record Premier League goalscorer.

Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool’s seventh goal to seal the victory, propelling the Reds to fifth place in the Premier League table. Liverpool are now three points off Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand.
