Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was named among the substitutes for the club’s Premier League clash with Brighton at Anfield on Saturday, following discussions between the forward and head coach Arne Slot.
The Dutch manager had stressed that the final decision on Salah’s involvement would rest with him after internal talks earlier in the day.
Slot had previously left the Egypt international out of the squad for Liverpool’s midweek Champions League victory away to Inter Milan, a move that followed strong public comments from the player about his treatment by the club.
Reports on Friday suggested the manager’s decision was based on what he believed best served the team’s interests.
Salah had accused Liverpool of making him a scapegoat after he was benched for last weekend’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds, marking the third consecutive match in which he failed to start.
He also claimed there was no relationship between himself and Slot when speaking to reporters after the game at Elland Road.
While Liverpool secured a 1-0 win in Milan on Tuesday, Salah shared an image on social media showing himself training alone in the gym at the club’s facilities.

Slot later confirmed he planned to speak with the player on Friday morning, adding that he had “no reason not to want him to stay” at the club.
Salah, who signed a new two-year contract in April, is expected to join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations immediately after the Brighton fixture.
His time away from Liverpool will depend on Egypt’s progress in the tournament, which concludes with the final in Morocco on January 18.
The 33-year-old is third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list with 250 goals in 420 appearances, having won two Premier League titles and a Champions League during his time at Anfield.
Despite scoring 29 league goals last season as Liverpool cruised to a record-equalling 20th title, he has netted just four times in 13 Premier League outings this campaign.
Liverpool enter the weekend sitting 10th in the table after a poor run of form, having managed only two victories in their last 10 league matches.
Salah has also been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.
