Sanwo-Olu Sees Tinubu Off at Airport After ‘Reconciliation’

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has left Lagos for Abuja, following a two-week stay and was seen off at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Tuesday afternoon by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state.

Tinubu had been in Lagos since May 27, when he participated in ECOWAS’s 50th anniversary celebration and joined Muslims in the Eid al-Adha festivities.

Throughout his time in the city, the tension between the president and the governor was a major topic in the news.

Sanwo-Olu Sees Tinubu Off at Airport Despite Reports of Rift

On May 31, Tinubu reportedly overlooked Sanwo-Olu during the inauguration of the completed phase 1, section 1 (30km by six lanes) of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. Notable figures, including several state governors and lawmakers, attended the ceremony.

On June 5, Sanwo-Olu did not attend the event where Tinubu launched the reconstruction of the deep-seaport access road in the Epe area of Ijebu-Ode. Sanwo-Olu’s designated seat was marked, but he was noticeably missing, with his deputy, Femi Hamzat, seated behind it.

It was reported that Tinubu reconciled with the governor on Sunday during a meeting with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).
