Saudi Arabia has condemned Israel’s strikes on Syrian army camps, describing them as “aggression” and a violation of international law.

In a statement, the Saudi foreign ministry said the attacks amounted to a blatant breach of Syria’s sovereignty and called on the international community to take action to stop Israel’s repeated violations.

The criticism follows Israeli strikes in southern Syria, which the military said were carried out in response to what it described as attacks targeting the Druze community in Sweida province.

Turkey also reacted, warning that the strikes marked a dangerous escalation and urging global intervention.

Israel has previously carried out similar strikes during periods of sectarian violence in Syria, maintaining that its actions are aimed at protecting the Druze minority.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that recent clashes involving Syrian government forces in Sweida left several Druze fighters dead, while subsequent Israeli shelling hit residential areas in the city.

Following the removal of longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel moved troops into the UN-monitored demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights and has since conducted hundreds of strikes and incursions in Syria.

Israel has said it will continue to act to prevent harm to Druze communities in the country.

The Syrian foreign ministry condemned the strikes as an assault on the country’s territorial integrity, dismissing Israel’s justification as baseless.
