The Senate on Wednesday opened the screening process for the newly appointed Service Chiefs, marking the beginning of their confirmation proceedings.
The session started at 12:40 p.m. following a motion by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele permitting guests into the chamber. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who led the plenary, formally brought the screening to order at 12:46 p.m.
The top military nominees arrived at the National Assembly complex earlier in the day, around 10 a.m., accompanied by a delegation of senior officers.

President Bola Tinubu, in a letter submitted on Tuesday, requested the Senate’s approval of the appointments. He appealed for “expeditious consideration” of the nominees to safeguard “continuity and effective coordination of the nation’s security architecture.”
The candidates up for confirmation are General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
