Sevilla Dismiss Garcia Pimienta After Fourth Straight League Defeat

Sevilla have sacked head coach Francisco Garcia Pimienta following a run of poor results, with the club’s latest 1-0 defeat to Valencia on Friday leaving them languishing in 13th place in La Liga.

The Andalusian side confirmed the decision on Sunday, expressing gratitude for Garcia Pimienta’s efforts since taking charge earlier in the season.

“Sevilla would like to thank García Pimienta for his work during these months, as well as for his professionalism, wishing him the best of luck in his future challenges,” the club said in a statement.

The 49-year-old manager oversaw just one win in his last seven games at the helm, including a painful derby loss to fierce rivals Real Betis on 30 March. The latest setback at the Mestalla proved to be the final straw.

According to reports in the Spanish press, veteran coach Joaquin Caparros is expected to step in as interim manager until the end of the campaign. Caparros previously guided the team during the closing stages of both the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons, and also led Sevilla between 2000 and 2005, playing a key role in their return to top-flight football.

Sevilla, who have endured a turbulent season, will now look to Caparros to stabilise the squad and secure a respectable finish in the final weeks of the league campaign.
