In an address that emphasised the importance of global unity, Shettima stressed that  “none of us in this world can function peacefully in isolation,” reminding the world of the interconnectedness of nations in tackling global challenges.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s ongoing support for conflict resolution efforts in Africa, including its involvement in the multinational joint task force, adding that Nigeria would continue to work alongside its African partners to address regional security challenges and promote stability across the continent.

The Vice President also spoke out against the violence in Gaza, condemning the attacks and stressing that “The people of Palestine are not collateral damage in a civilisation searching for order,” calling on the international community to prioritise “civilised values over bloodshed,” while acknowledging the role peace can play in creating lasting opportunities for progress.

In his speech, Shettima also reiterated Nigeria’s support for the women, peace, and security agenda, recognising the vital role women play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
