Singapore will invest over Sg$1 billion ($785 million) in public research on Artificial Intelligence through 2030, aiming to strengthen its capabilities and boost global competitiveness, the government announced on Saturday.
Officials stated that the funding will support the creation of “world-class” research centres, promote industrial applications of AI, and develop talent through collaborations with international researchers and institutions.

Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo told attendees at an AI research week gala that the centres will tackle “long-term, difficult questions” with benefits for the country.
She added that researchers are expected to collaborate actively, both locally and internationally, and to share findings openly to contribute to the global knowledge base.
The Ministry of Digital Development also stated that AI research will advance the nation’s deep technical capabilities and ensure Singapore remains at the forefront of AI innovation.
Singapore has increasingly relied on technology to meet labour and industrial needs.
