Six Killed in North Darfur Market Shelling

Six people were killed and several others wounded in a shelling attack on a market and a nearby displaced persons’ camp in Sudan’s North Darfur region on Sunday.

The Abu Shouk camp, located near the state capital El-Fasher, was targeted by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who have laid siege to the city since last May.

The attack occurred as civilians were shopping for Ramadan necessities, and the Emergency Response Room, a local volunteer group, confirmed that six unarmed civilians had died.

The RSF’s ongoing assault in Darfur continues amid the nearly two-year-old war against Sudan’s army, resulting in severe starvation and displacement across the region.

Famine has already taken hold in camps like Abu Shouk, with projections for it to spread throughout Darfur by May, further exacerbating the dire humanitarian crisis.
