In Slovenia, the Interior Minister, Bostjan Poklukar, and the Justice Minister, Andreja Katic, submitted their resignations on Sunday following intense public backlash over the death of a 48-year-old man in Novo Mesto.
The victim was allegedly attacked by a member of the Roma community.
Prime Minister Robert Golob accepted the resignations, stating that the incident “shouldn’t have happened” and the ministers had “assumed their responsibilities.” They will remain in their posts temporarily until replacements are found.
The Saturday attack has amplified long-standing tensions and concerns over rising crime and violence blamed on the local Roma minority.

While police confirmed the detention of a 21-year-old suspect with a criminal record, local media and the Novo Mesto mayor, Gregor Macedoni, explicitly attributed the attack to a Roma group.
Macedoni decried the incident as evidence of a worsening security crisis that state institutions have failed to address.
In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Golob pledged to immediately deploy additional police units to the Novo Mesto area and announced the government would implement new, previously “unimaginable” legal measures to ensure regional security.
