A woman in her 20s, identified only by her surname, Yang, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Seoul Central District Court for blackmailing South Korean football star Son Heung-min.
Yang initially extorted 300 million won (approximately $200,000) from the former Tottenham captain by sending him a foetal ultrasound image and falsely claiming the child was his, threatening to disclose the information publicly.
Yang reportedly spent the money on luxury items.
Following the initial payment, Yang and an accomplice, surnamed Yong, attempted to extort an additional 70 million won from Son, prompting the LA FC player to contact the police, which led to their arrest in May.

Judge Im Jeong-bin noted that Yang took “extreme measures” beyond simple threats, including contacting media and advertising agencies and exploiting Son’s public status, which caused the player “considerable psychological distress.”
The accomplice, Yong, received a two-year sentence for attempted blackmail.
The court noted that Yang’s testimony regarding the paternity of the child was inconsistent and difficult to accept, leaving it unclear whether she was actually pregnant with Son’s child.
