Sokoto Police Recover 25 Suspected Stolen Cattle

The Gada Divisional Police Headquarters in Sokoto State has recovered 25 cattle believed to have been either stolen or strayed from their rightful owners.

The livestock were discovered on Thursday in a dense forest along the border of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, following a tip-off from local authorities.

Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the recovery in a statement issued on Friday. He said the operation was launched after Alhaji Muhammad Kyari reported the presence of stray cattle in the area.

The cattle were located in a forest known for its challenging terrain and occasional security concerns. Responding swiftly, officers from the Gada Division were deployed to the scene, where they recovered all 25 cattle without incident.

Following the recovery, the animals were transported to the Gada Divisional Headquarters, where they are being held securely.

The police have urged livestock owners whose cattle may be missing to visit the station with verifiable proof of ownership to facilitate identification and collection.

“This operation underscores our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our citizens, including their sources of livelihood,” Rufai stated.

Authorities also appealed to residents of Gada and surrounding communities to share the information widely to help identify the rightful owners quickly and avoid disputes or unnecessary delays.
