A brother to late Yakubu, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his brother and two other officers were returning from a patrol duty when they drove against traffic following a gridlock along Eleme road, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

However, when they reached the petrochemical company’s gate, they were accosted by an ununiformed soldier, who challenged them for driving against traffic.

The encounter led to a faceoff with the soldier slapping the police patrol driver in the process. The deceased was said to have confronted the soldier and a fight ensued with other soldiers entering the fray.

It was gathered that during the fight, a soldier allegedly grabbed a wood and hit the deceased on the head till he slumped.

Yakubu was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital [UPTH] where he died.
