The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has launched efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the production of counterfeit television sets following the circulation of a video from the Alaba International Market area of Lagos State.
The video, reportedly recorded inside the market, showed stacks of television cartons bearing popular brand names, while a voice alleged that the products were fake and assembled locally.
In the footage, an unidentified narrator accused some traders in Alaba of printing the logos of well-known television brands on illegally assembled sets to pass them off as genuine.

He claimed that television sets labelled as LG and Hisense, along with their packaging, were counterfeit and produced within the market.
According to him, the traders printed brand logos on cartons, remote controls, and even on the frames of the television sets to give them an authentic appearance.
The speaker further alleged that a shop he visited had more than 3,000 of the fake television sets already branded and ready for sale.
Reacting to the allegations, the Press Liaison Officer of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Angela Okisor, confirmed that the agency had begun tracking those involved in the fraudulent activities.
Speaking on Friday, Okisor said SON was working closely with relevant trade unions and security agencies, adding that investigations were ongoing at a high level.
She said the organisation had taken the matter seriously and was intensifying efforts to identify and stop the production and distribution of counterfeit television sets.
