Four schoolchildren lost their lives in a tragic collision between two vehicles on the N12 near Putfontein Road, Ekurhuleni, in South Africa on Monday morning.
According to Ekurhuleni’s disaster and emergency services, five others sustained critical injuries in the crash, which occurred at around 7 am.

Spokesperson William Ntladi confirmed that emergency teams were still working at the scene, recovering trapped victims from the wreckage.
“The entire freeway is closed for traffic as rescue teams are busy with rescue and recovery of entrapped patients in vehicles.
“All the deceased are pupils of different ages and schools coming from Daveyton,” Ntladi stated.
Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the area and use the Kingsway or Etwatwa off-ramps towards N12 Benoni instead.
“We encourage motorists to please exercise caution as this may lead to another road accident,” Ntladi added.
