South Africa: Power Restored to Ennerdale After 2-Day Outage

The power outage in South Africa’s Ennerdale city has been restored after a two-day disruption caused by cable theft and burnt equipment.

On Wednesday, residents in the town south of Johannesburg voiced their dissatisfaction by barricading streets with rocks and burning tyres.

The protest action triggered a reaction from City Power, which sent personnel to restore four substations affected by the outage.

“All customers who had been affected by the outage, with the exception of Lenasia South, are back on. Customers are urged to unplug appliances to avoid causing a network overload or damaging household electrical devices” said spokesperson Isaac Magena.
