South African police rescued approximately 200 people from an unregistered rehabilitation facility in Mpumalanga province on Friday.
Officers arrested two individuals at the scene and launched investigations into alleged kidnapping and severe health and safety violations.
Authorities transported 14 victims to local facilities for immediate medical treatment following the raid.
Local media outlets reported that operators at the facility chained several residents and withheld food, though police have not yet formally confirmed these specific details.

Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli stated that preliminary findings indicate many of the rescued individuals originate from townships in Johannesburg and Rustenburg, noting that official verification efforts remain underway.
