Southampton extended their impressive unbeaten streak to 16 matches on Tuesday with a dominant 5-1 victory over Wrexham.

The win puts the Saints in a commanding position for a Championship play-off spot, moving them two points clear of their rivals with a game in hand.

Following their high-profile FA Cup upset against Arsenal last weekend, Southampton showed no signs of slowing down, despite manager Tonda Eckert making six changes to the starting lineup.

The match was largely one-sided from the start, as Kuryu Matsuki and Flynn Downes both capitalised on defensive lapses to give the visitors a two-goal cushion within the first 22 minutes.

Although Wrexham briefly found hope when Josh Windass pulled a goal back, the momentum was short-lived.

Southampton’s clinical attack proved too much for the home side, with Cyle Larin, Ross Stewart, and Finn Azaz all finding the net to turn the game into a blowout.

The result is a significant setback for Wrexham’s ambitious goal of securing a fourth consecutive promotion under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

While automatic promotion remains unlikely for Southampton due to a poor start to the season, their current form suggests they are the team to watch in the race for the Premier League.

The Saints will look to carry this momentum forward as they balance their promotion push with an upcoming FA Cup semi-final.
