The Spanish football federation announced on Monday that Euro 2024 champions Spain will face Serbia in an international friendly on March 27.
The match is scheduled to take place at Villarreal’s Estadio de la Cerámica in Castellón.
This fixture serves as a replacement for the highly anticipated “Finalissima” clash against Argentina, which was officially cancelled due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The Finalissima, a prestige match between the reigning European and South American champions, was originally slated for Doha, Qatar.
However, security concerns following recent military strikes in the region prompted organisers to seek alternative venues.
UEFA reported that, despite proposing several fallback options—including a match in Madrid or a two-legged series—no agreement could be reached with the Argentinian Football Association, leading to the event’s total cancellation.

In addition to the Serbia match, Luis de la Fuente’s squad is still expected to play a friendly against Egypt.
While that game was also originally scheduled for Qatar on March 30, it will now likely be moved to a venue in Spain and pushed back by one day.
These fixtures are considered vital preparation for Spain as they head into the 2026 World Cup this June as one of the tournament’s top favourites.
