The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Nigerian government has installed surveillance cameras on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Speaking on Sunday during a stakeholder meeting on the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, Umahi said the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, positioned both on and beneath the bridge, will be inaugurated soon.
He added that ministry officials would monitor the footage and enforce speed regulations.
Extended Rehabilitation to Falomo
The former Ebonyi governor also revealed that the government has extended rehabilitation works to Falomo, installing streetlights and additional surveillance cameras in the area.
“We have put streetlights and CCTV cameras. Whatever you are doing from Falomo to the Third Mainland Bridge, we are watching—it is on camera and routed to Abuja,” Umahi stated.
He likened the system to surveillance measures already in place on the Second Niger Bridge.
Warning on Speed Limits
The minister urged drivers to observe speed limits on the bridge, warning that excessive speeding could force the government to install speed bumps, which would cause heavy traffic congestion.
