Spotify and Netflix have signed a landmark agreement that will see a selection of video podcasts produced by Spotify debut on Netflix’s platform, the companies announced late on Tuesday.
The deal includes 16 video versions of shows created by Spotify Studios and The Ringer, the latter acquired by Spotify in 2020.
The podcasts will begin streaming in the United States in early 2026, with other international markets set to follow.
Roman Wasenmuller, Spotify’s Vice President and Head of Podcasts, described the collaboration as “a new chapter for podcasting”, while the company added that it intends to create “similar opportunities” for more podcasters in the future.
Industry experts see the agreement as a strategic move to expand Spotify’s presence in the video space.
“I see this as a clear step in Spotify’s strategy to accelerate its video podcast bet, which has become an increasingly important focus,” said Christoffer Jennel, an analyst at Inderes.
Spotify first branched out from music streaming in 2015 by introducing non-music audio and video content. Its commitment to podcasting has grown significantly since then, highlighted by its 2019 acquisition of Gimlet Media, one of the industry’s leading podcast producers.
In its statement, Spotify noted that while podcasts “began as an audio-first medium,” the format has evolved into “a vibrant multi-format landscape.”
Jennel added that the deal “is another step in Spotify’s ambition to establish itself as a broader media platform beyond audio.”
