The Commissioner for Youth Development in Delta State, ThankGod Trakiriowei, has made an urgent plea to the youth of the Niger Delta to overcome scepticism and actively engage with federal opportunities like the Student Loan Scheme, assuring them that these programmes are legitimate and accessible.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Niger Delta Progressive Alliance (NDPA) themed “Empirical Perspective on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR Offers in Two Years: A Strategic Engagement of Niger Deltans on Accessibility,” Trakiriowei addressed a key barrier to participation.
“The Niger Delta Progressive Alliance – they are here with something we have been hearing of, but we think it is a fraud,” the Commissioner stated. He quickly countered this perception, declaring, “I want to tell you, Deltan youth, that it is not a fraud.”
Trakiriowei expressed concern that while other parts of the country are benefiting from these initiatives, the Niger Delta—which he described as a “major contributor” to the nation’s economy—is not adequately partaking in them.

He specifically highlighted the new Student Loan Scheme as a vital resource in challenging economic times.
“It talks about the student loan. It is something that we think every student should give a try at home,” he urged.
He acknowledged the financial difficulty facing families: “You know how difficult this time is for every one of you. And even your parents… it is not really easy for them.”
The Commissioner implored the youth to “tap into this available platform” made available by the Nigerian government, listing the Student Loan, as well as the Livestock and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) schemes, among others.
He concluded his address by stressing that, as major contributors to the country’s greatness, the Niger Delta region must not be left behind in benefiting from national economic and educational empowerment programmes.
