Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has announced plans to establish a transitional government as the military makes significant advances against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Speaking in Port Sudan, Burhan said the new administration, composed of “independent” experts, would oversee the transition process and support ongoing military efforts to regain full control of the country. He ruled out negotiations with the RSF unless they withdrew from key territories, including Khartoum, West Kordofan, and Darfur.
Sudan has been embroiled in conflict since April 2023, with the war killing tens of thousands and displacing over 12 million people. Burhan emphasized that a constitutional document would be approved before appointing a prime minister, vowing not to interfere in the government’s work.
