Manchester United continued their winning start to the Premier League Summer Series in the United States with a dominant 4-1 triumph over Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday.
Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo, and young prospect Ethan Williams all found the net for Ruben Amorim’s side, who controlled the match from the outset at a rain-soaked Soldier Field.
Having defeated West Ham 2-1 in their tour opener, United wasted no time asserting themselves, with Hojlund putting them ahead in the 8th minute. The Danish striker rose to meet Dorgu’s pinpoint cross from the left, glancing a header beyond Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic.
Dorgu turned scorer in the 25th minute, racing onto a quickly taken lofted free-kick from Mason Mount before holding off his marker and calmly sliding the ball past Petrovic to double the lead.
United extended their advantage in the second half when Diallo bundled in a third in the 53rd minute. Manager Amorim then rang the changes with 20 minutes to play, bringing on nine substitutes.
Teenager Ethan Williams wasted no time making an impression, curling a low shot into the far corner just two minutes after coming on to make it 4-0. Bournemouth were handed a late consolation when Matthijs de Ligt inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 88th minute.
Elsewhere in Chicago, West Ham came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 in a reunion with their former boss David Moyes. Idrissa Gueye gave Everton an early lead, but Lucas Paquetá levelled just before the break, and Niclas Füllkrug completed the turnaround in the 64th minute.
The result adds to Everton’s disappointing pre-season, having already lost 3-0 to Bournemouth. Moyes admitted the squad was underprepared.
“I’m not overly concerned because I don’t have the players I need or want,” he said. “We knew coming here we’d be up against it. We’re not ready for this tournament or the new season yet.”
The Summer Series concludes in Atlanta on Sunday, where Manchester United face Everton and West Ham take on Bournemouth.
