Supreme Court Removes Barr. Julius Abure as Labour Party National Chairman

The Supreme Court has dismissed Barr. Julius Abure from his role as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision in Abuja, which had recognised Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

A five-judge panel unanimously ruled that the Court of Appeal overstepped its jurisdiction by declaring Abure as the party’s National Chairman, as the central issue of the case was related to the party’s internal leadership, a matter beyond the court’s authority.

The court also upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another individual, affirming the appeal’s merit.

Additionally, the Labour Party’s cross-appeal from the Abure camp was dismissed for lacking merit.
