The Supreme Court is poised to announce its decision regarding the five appeals related to the turmoil in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Following the review of the appeals concerning the defection of 27 lawmakers, the apex court has postponed its ruling to a date that will be communicated to the involved parties.
Among other concerns, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is questioning the legality of Martin Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly due to his alleged switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside 26 other members.
During the last session, the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, ruled against Governor Fubara’s appeal, which contested the legality of reintroducing the 2024 state budget before the leadership of the House of Assembly under Speaker Amaewhule.
This dismissal happened after Governor Fubara’s attorney, Yusuf Ali, retracted the lawsuit, indicating that the appeal had lost significance.
