Tanker Drivers Suspend Planned Strike, Set to Resume Operations

Tanker drivers are set to recommence operations following the decision by the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to call off the previously scheduled nationwide strike.

NARTO made the decision to suspend the strike on Tuesday, February 20, after talks with the Federal Government, stakeholders, and the tanker drivers on Monday, February 19.

The drivers had threatened to put operations and the transportation of petroleum products on hold due to challenging economic circumstances in the country.

News Central reported that last Friday, members of NARTO declared their intention to down tools on Monday in protest against the “high operational costs in the Industry” occasioned by the escalating prices of Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel.
