Tax Reforms: Senate, AGF Yet to Convene for Review

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the Senate special committee that is in communication with the Federal Government about the contentious tax reform proposals have not yet convened to examine the bills.

President Bola Tinubu ordered the executive to meet with lawmakers to clarify any ambiguities in the bills; thus, two weeks ago, the Senate formed a committee to meet with the AGF.

As reported by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate committee was scheduled to meet with the AGF last week; however, the meeting did not take place.

Additionally, a committee member informed PUNCH that they intended to compile the information in two weeks.

The committee planned to conclude its meeting and deliberations in two weeks and submit a report to the Senate after that, the source added.

When contacted, Abba Moro, the committee chairman, stated that the panel still had time to complete the assignment.

“Was there a deadline set? he asked. If we have, we have only used up one week. There is still one week left.”
