Over 4,500 people have fled Sudan’s North Kordofan state due to increasing attacks and abuses by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to a statement from a Sudanese medical organisation released on Friday.
The Sudan Doctors Network said in a post on X that there is an exodus of people from the Bara area to El Obeid city as violence escalates and civilians endure continuous violations. The International Organisation for Migration reported on Thursday that an additional 1,100 individuals fled Bara this week, bringing the total number of newly displaced civilians across the country to over 35,000 in just four days.
Local officials confirmed fatalities and injuries resulting from an RSF drone strike in the Zareibat Sheikh El Borai region of North Kordofan, highlighting the worsening insecurity in the area.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and RSF forces have been engaged in a brutal civil war that has resulted in approximately 20,000 deaths and displaced more than 15 million people, according to figures from the UN.

Meanwhile, the RSF announced the detention of several fighters who are accused of committing abuses during the takeover of Al Fasher, including a man known as Abu Lulu, who was seen in verified footage by AFP executing prisoners. In one verified clip, he is observed shooting unarmed individuals at close range, while another video shows him among armed men near numerous bodies and charred vehicles.
The RSF published a video that purportedly shows Abu Lulu in custody, which they claimed to be in a North Darfur prison.
However, survivors who fled to Tawila recounted accounts of massacres, including children being shot in front of their parents, and civilians being robbed as they escaped.
The RSF, which originated from the government-supported Janjaweed militia during the early 2000s Darfur conflict, is now facing new allegations of war crimes.
