Three Dead, Dozens Injured in Hospital Fire in Hamburg

A deadly fire broke out overnight in a geriatric ward of a hospital in Hamburg, Germany, killing three people and injuring 34 others, local emergency services reported on Sunday.

The blaze erupted in a patient’s room at the Marienkrankenhaus hospital and threatened to engulf the first floor, according to fire service spokesman Lorenz Hartmann. Emergency crews responded swiftly, working to contain the flames before they could spread further.

Several elderly patients, many with limited mobility, had to be evacuated through the corridors during the emergency response.

Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from reaching other parts of the hospital, averting a wider tragedy.

Authorities have yet to determine what caused the blaze, and investigations are ongoing.
