The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed a Friday night attack on the Baraya community in Gwadabawa Local Government Area, during which three people were killed.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmed Rufai, speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, said that bandits stormed the community, located near Illela, and attacked residents, killing three during the assault.
“They attacked the community on Friday night and killed three people,” Rufai said.
“We immediately mobilised officers from the Salame Division, and our men are currently pursuing the bandits in the bush,” he added.

The spokesman assured the public that the command was taking every necessary measure to restore peace across the state.
Meanwhile, a source revealed that a team of security operatives was swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat before they could successfully rustle any livestock.
A resident of the community stated that security forces responded quickly, helping to prevent further casualties.
Troops recovered several items from the scene of the attack, including three empty AK-47 bullet shells.
