Law enforcement officials in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, have detained three Nigerian nationals following a raid at Mwaliko Estate in Ngurubani Town, in Mwea East Sub-County, in connection with their suspected participation in a cyber fraud scheme.
According to the Mwea East Sub-County Police Commander, Stephen Okal, the trio—Peter Chukwujekwu, Alazor Chukulute Sunday, and Nnalue Chiagozie Samwel was captured after vigilant community members reported their suspicious activities and late-night conduct in a rented unit.
During the operation conducted on Thursday, police recovered 21 mobile phones, 79 SIM cards, a Dell laptop, and various credit cards from multiple banks, all believed to be associated with an advanced fraud network.
Further investigations indicated that the individuals, who claimed they were “operating an online business,” are residing in the country unlawfully. Their entry permits have lapsed, and they lack valid work permits.
The suspects are presently being held at Wang’uru Police Station as authorities work to uncover the full extent of their network and explore potential connections to cross-border cybercrime operations.
