Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up of the military hierarchy, appointing new service chiefs in a move the presidency described as aimed at strengthening the country’s national security architecture.
In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede takes over from General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff. Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as the Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff, and Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Announcing the changes on Friday, October 24, in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, the President expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership”.
President Tinubu urged the newly appointed military leaders to live up to expectations by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and the spirit of comradeship within the Armed Forces.
He charged the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
