President Bola Tinubu has authorised the procurement of additional military equipment to strengthen the fight against insurgency and terrorism across Nigeria.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, following a high-level security briefing at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Musa, the meeting allowed service chiefs to brief the president on ongoing military operations and the current security situation across the country.
“The meeting enabled Mr. President to gain direct insight into developments on the ground,” Musa said, adding that recent media reports had not fully reflected the scale of military activities.
The defence minister acknowledged that there had been a series of recent attacks but maintained that security forces have continued to respond effectively, inflicting significant losses on terrorist groups.
He disclosed that several high-ranking militant commanders had been neutralised in recent operations, while troops also seized weapons and other assets belonging to the insurgents.

Musa paid tribute to members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing the losses as deeply regrettable.
“The commitment of our Armed Forces to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians is unwavering,” he said.
He also appealed for public patience, noting that terrorist groups often intensify attacks during Ramadan, adding that military commanders have adjusted their strategies accordingly.
Musa expressed confidence that with the newly approved equipment and improved cooperation among security agencies, the military would succeed in its ongoing campaign against terrorism.
“Our agencies are working in concert, fully committed to winning this war,” he added.
