President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, to visit Jos, the capital of Plateau State, following recent deadly attacks that left several residents dead.

The President, in a statement on Wednesday, said his “first duty at this moment is to stand with the people of Plateau.”

He added that he will commiserate with families who lost loved ones and reaffirm that those who seek to spread fear “will not prevail.”

Tinubu also pledged to continue strengthening Nigeria’s security response and ensure that justice is done.

According to the State House press release, from Plateau, Tinubu will travel to Lagos to observe Good Friday and then proceed with scheduled visits to Ogun, Lagos, and Bayelsa states.

His engagements in Ogun include commissioning the Gateway International Cargo Airport, inaugurating commercial aircraft for import and export operations, and opening the new edifice of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service, along with its operational vehicles.

In Lagos, the President is expected to commission several infrastructure projects, including the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a Multi-Agency Complex named after him, and a school complex.

Before returning to Abuja, Tinubu will visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission completed projects under Governor Duoye Diri’s administration.

The President’s trip to Plateau comes in the wake of increased security concerns following the March 29 attacks in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which prompted the deployment of additional police and tactical units to the state.

“From Plateau, I will proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday, and then continue with scheduled engagements in Ogun, Lagos, and Bayelsa focused on infrastructure, trade, and economic growth,” Tinubu said.

“In moments of grief, we must stand together. In moments of progress, we must keep building. The work continues. Nigeria First.”
