President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.
According to a statement from Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced the appointment on Friday, with the purpose o driving meaningful progress in the livestock sector and strengthen national development efforts.

Jega, a former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, previously co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu. The committee presented comprehensive recommendations for sustainable livestock reforms, including the establishment of a dedicated Livestock Ministry, which now has a minister in place.
At 68, Jega remains an influential figure in academia and governance. He is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. He also held the position of INEC Chairman from 2010 to 2015.
Onanuga stated that Jega’s appointment as Special Adviser to President Tinubu will reinforce the progress achieved by the presidential committee and ensure the continued momentum of the ongoing reforms.
