Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has named Shamsedeen Ogunjimi the next Accountant-General of the Federation following a thorough screening process.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, stated that his appointment, which was approved on Tuesday, will take effect on March 7, 2025, the day incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin retires.
Last December, Ogunjimi, 57, was initially announced as Madehin’s replacement.
A selection committee made up of Federal Civil Service Directors of Accounts then chose him in a competitive, demanding, and merit-based procedure. The committee took three steps: oral interviews, an ICT proficiency examination, and a written assessment.

“The selection process demonstrates President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing openness, quality, and proficiency in important public service roles,” the statement said in part.
In 1990, Ogunjimi earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Additionally, he graduated from the University of Lagos with a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance.
He is a fellow of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Ogunjimi received congratulations from President Tinubu on his appointment, and he was urged to carry out his responsibilities with honesty, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s service.
