President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.

The renewal, which took effect on February 27, was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Audi, who was first appointed to lead the corps in 2021 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, completed his initial tenure last Friday, 20 February 2026.

According to the statement, the NSCDC general is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the agency’s role in national security.

President Tinubu tasked him with repositioning the corps to take on a more prominent role, particularly as the police focus on tackling crimes, including banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Audi joined the NSCDC in 1996 as a volunteer and rose through the ranks after completing his basic officer training in 1997.

Over the years, he has served in various capacities across state commands and was subsequently deployed to the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
