President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Friday after a momentous two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
The two-day visit was a historic first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, with the previous visit dating back to 1989.
The presidential aircraft touched down in Nigeria to a warm reception from senior government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, shared video footage on X, highlighting the excitement surrounding the president’s return. “A President arrives home. Excitement as President Tinubu returns to Nigeria after a resoundingly successful state visit to the UK,” Dare wrote.

The Nigerian delegation, led by President Tinubu, arrived in London on Tuesday and was welcomed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle the following day. The reception included a ceremonial honour guard and a carriage procession.
At the state banquet hosted by the British royals on Wednesday, Tinubu reflected on the support Nigeria received during its military dictatorship, emphasising the enduring ties between the two nations.
During the visit, the president also held high-level talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The bilateral meeting was a key part of the visit, focused on strengthening Nigeria-UK relations.
Among the notable outcomes was the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Additionally, an agreement was signed to facilitate the return of failed Nigerian asylum seekers, visa overstayers, and convicted offenders, enhancing migration control and cooperation between the two countries.
