Tinubu appointed Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police on February 24, 2026, following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, who cited family reasons in his resignation letter.

Disu’s appointment followed a meeting between the outgoing Inspector-General and the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. It was later unanimously endorsed by the Nigeria Police Council.
