Tinubu Unveils Plans to Overhaul Nigeria’s Telecoms Sector

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to reform Nigeria’s telecommunications regulatory framework to align with global standards. The initiative hopes to enhance infrastructure protection, improve operational efficiency, and create a more investment-friendly environment.

Speaking at a meeting with an Airtel delegation led by Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu emphasised his administration’s commitment to fostering business growth.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, added that tax reforms would further boost investor confidence. Meanwhile, Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, highlighted the government’s recent classification of fibre optic and undersea cables as critical national assets, with enforcement already underway.

Airtel’s Chairman, Mittal, praised Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, comparing them to transformative policies that reshaped India’s economy in 1991. He commended the removal of fuel subsidies and the naira’s managed float, calling them crucial steps for long-term stability.
