Tinubu Will Lose Sleep Soon – Momodu

Former presidential candidate and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has predicted sleepless nights for President Bola Tinubu in the months to come over the 2027 elections.

In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Momodu said Tinubu’s supporters, who rally around him, are pretentious and will turn their backs on him.

“I am telling you that in the coming weeks and coming months, Tinubu will begin to lose sleep when he sees the true colour of human beings. They will show him all those who are expecting something from him today. They are pretending to be the rattlesnake, waiting, hoping they will get something,” said Momodu.

“When they can no longer get it, they will seek their fortune elsewhere. Even right now, their own vice president, a very cerebral gentleman, is at a crossroads because APC does not know whether he can risk a Muslim-Muslim ticket again. So, Kashim Shetima, the VP, is there, watching and waiting to see who will remove him as vice president, then go and bring a Northern Christian.”

As the 2027 election draws nearer, Nigeria’s political landscape has seen developments that could potentially determine the outcome, such as the massive defection of governors and other politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

For context, 31 of Nigeria’s 36 sitting governors are now members of the APC. But Momodu opined that this does not guarantee a smooth victory for Tinubu in 2027.

He recounted Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike’s, who was the governor of Rivers State at the time, role as the leader of the G5 during the 2023 election.

“So, you know, I try to simplify this thing so that those who think Tinubu’s strategy is foolproof. He has gathered all the governors in Nigeria. In fact, let me gather all 36. I tell you, the simple example I love to give is what happened to members of the G5 led by Wike in the last election,” said Momodu.

“Three of them contested senatorial elections. They all lost. And they were sitting governors. So, what gives Tinubu the confidence that he can get the governors to deliver the votes for him? Then, finally, the will of the people.”

Some of the strongest contenders of the forthcoming 2027 presidential election are Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has been contesting since 1993 and former Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi.

Momodu expressed optimism that an opposition ticket involving Atiku Abubakar and a southern political figure could unseat Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

“I believe if we have a combination of Atiku, maybe with Peter Obi, maybe with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other person that comes from the South, Tinubu will be gone. It will be the end of Tinubu’s foundation, not the APC,” said Momodu.

Explaining further, he said Atiku’s long-standing political ambition and experience position him as a formidable contender if he emerges as the opposition candidate.
