Tragedy in Osun After Footballer Collapses and Dies During Match

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of one Adeyemi Adewale, who was participating in a football tournament in Osogbo, the state capital.

The deceased, reported to be a member of the Ilesa West Local Government Area football team, allegedly collapsed on the field and was taken to a hospital, where the doctor confirmed his death.

The spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident in a brief statement provided to journalists, noting that the occurrence occurred on Thursday in Osogbo.

“Today, (Thursday) during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match being held at Ataoja School of Science, a player named Adeyemi Adewale, 29 years old, from the Ilesa West Football team, collapsed on the field.

He was taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a doctor later confirmed his death.” Opalola said, adding that an investigation has begun regarding the incident.
