Troops under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), backed by air components, successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents on New Marte in Borno State in the early hours of May 27, 2025. The foiled assault led to the neutralisation of dozens of terrorists and the recovery of weapons and explosives.
According to a military source, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the troops’ defensive location but were swiftly countered by personnel of the 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and the 134 Special Forces Battalion. “A fierce firefight ensued,” the source said, “and the Air Component responded with Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) alongside precision airstrikes, decimating the fleeing terrorists.”
Despite the successful defence, two gallant soldiers lost their lives in the operation.
Troops conducting mop-up operations recovered a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV, abandoned by the retreating terrorists, along with multiple destroyed motorcycles used during the attack. Numerous corpses of terrorists were also recovered, and blood trails indicated a higher number of casualties as the assailants fled into the surrounding terrain.

In a related development, another group of insurgents attempted to breach the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kumshe. That assault was also repelled, with troops eliminating several attackers.
Reaffirming their mission, troops of OPHK stated their commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements. “We are determined to deny the terrorists any freedom of action and to maintain offensive operations aimed at restoring peace and reviving socio-economic activities in the Northeast,” the statement noted, reiterating the strategic objectives of the joint task force.
The success of the coordinated operations marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts to stabilise the region and degrade terrorist capabilities.
