Troops from the 32 Artillery Brigade neutralised two suspected armed terrorists during a high-stakes tactical operation in Ondo State on February 14, 2026.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding criminal activity along the Akunu–Auga Road, the unit mobilised from the Forward Operating Base in Auga to intercept the group.

The encounter quickly escalated into a firefight, with the army’s superior firepower resulting in the death of two suspects while others fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Nigerian Army, the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), and local vigilantes.

Following the skirmish, security forces recovered a significant cache of items, including an AK-47 rifle, 61 rounds of ammunition, and two magazines.

Other recovered items included three mobile handsets, a jackknife, charms, suspected illicit drugs, and ₦39,000 in cash.

The Nigerian Army stated that this successful mission underscores its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of movement and protecting residents across the state.

Officials emphasised that they will continue to intensify patrols and “exploitation operations” along known criminal corridors.

This crackdown coincides with a broader security surge in the region, which recently saw the Amotekun Corps arrest 95 individuals for various offences, including kidnapping and illegal mining.

Major Irabor Njoka, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely information with security agencies.

He noted that cooperation between the military and the local community remains the most critical factor in eliminating violent criminal elements in the state.
