Troops Repel Boko Haram/ISWAP Attacks in Borno

In a clash that unfolded in New Marte and Kumshe areas of Borno State, Nigerian troops successfully repelled coordinated assaults launched by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

According to a statement released Tuesday by Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, the attacks were effectively thwarted through a seamless synergy between ground forces and precision air support. Despite the tactical victory and the resilience displayed by the troops, the operation came at a grave cost—the loss of two courageous soldiers who paid the ultimate price in defense of their nation.

“In the early hours of May 27, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) foiled an attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate their position in New Marte.

The attackers were met with heavy gunfire, supported by immediate Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and offensive firepower from the Air Component, resulting in the decimation of several fleeing terrorists,” the statement read.

A similar attempt to attack the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe was also repelled, further showcasing the renewed synergy between the ground forces and air support.

“Regrettably, two soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice during the encounter,” Kovangiya stated.

The statement highlighted significant gains from the operation, including the recovery of an abandoned Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV, destruction of several motorcycles used by the terrorists, and discovery of lifeless bodies of insurgents, along with blood trails indicating additional casualties.

Kovangiya emphasised that these efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to restoring peace and enabling socio-economic development in the Northeast region.
