Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have foiled an early-morning attempt by terrorists from the Mandara Mountains to infiltrate Bitta in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, killing several insurgents and significantly weakening their operational capacity.

Lt Col Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, December 18, 2025.

“At about 0030 hours, our troops, supported by advanced surveillance systems, detected terrorists advancing towards Bitta. Exercising tactical restraint, they allowed the insurgents to enter effective engagement range before launching coordinated defensive fire, neutralising several militants, including a senior fighter and his cameraman,” Uba said.

The troops pursued the retreating terrorists with precision air strikes, further disrupting their escape and causing additional casualties.

Items recovered include AK-47 rifles, PKT and GPMG machine guns, ammunition, mobile phones, a camcorder, bandoliers, motorcycles, bicycles, and 11 AK-47 magazines with rounds.

Uba added that blood trails and shallow graves discovered at the site indicated further losses among the insurgents during the encounter and subsequent air operations.
